10 Wrestling Mistakes & Botches That Became Storylines
7. Britt Baker’s Injuries
Britt Baker struggled to find her role when she first debuted for All Elite Wrestling as a babyface. It was only when she turned heel that she became more comfortable and over with crowds, using legitimate injuries to her advantage.
Baker had to sit out Double or Nothing (2020) when she suffered a leg fracture when she teamed with Nyla Rose against Hikaru Shida and Kris Statlander on an episode of Dynamite. The spot occurred when Shida and Statlander threw Nyla on Baker’s knee. It was estimated she would be out of action for two months.
In that time, AEW booked her in promo segments on Dynamite, returning on the 27th May episode being wheeled into the arena by her onscreen assistant Rebel. The back of her chair hilariously had the words ‘ROLL MODEL’ in glitter splattered across it, a play on her ‘Role Model’ nickname. She cut a fierce promo claiming Shida, Statlander and Nyla conspired together to take her out and severely injure her. Her injury/promos afterwards added some strong character development to her persona.
Later that year she was opportunistic with her injuries again when she broke her nose in a match with Hikaru Shida, with Baker bloodily staring down the camera in a memorable segment.
