Time and time again over the years, WWE have used their incoming edition of the 2K video game to build towards an actual in-ring showing or return in the middle of their squared-circle.

Look no further than Sting and Goldberg's inclusions in the game before making eventual WWE debuts and returns, respectively.

But in an epic moment that preceded both of those video game announcements turned in-ring realities, it actually looked as though CM Punk and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's promoting of WWE 2K13 was set to lead to a simply monumental battle between the two icons.

The tension between the two during a Jim Ross-managed interview made for absolutely golden content and left many assuming that WWE must have been interested in capitalising on the buzz surrounding the two in the wake of their explosive sit-down.

In the end, though, this eventually turned out to be little more than a brilliant piece of marketing that stirred up a ton of interest in the aforementioned game.

That being said, Punk would claim a few years on that there was actually a "sliver of time" when the bout looked like it was actually going to go down. But in typical wrestling fashion, "then the next minute it didn't."
