Another legendary name of the past who seemingly can't go a year without being linked to a much-wanted return on the Grandest Stage, a number of The Rock's appearances in the lead-up to and during WrestleMania 31 seemed to hint at one last bout for The Great One opposite long-time rival Triple H.

The pair's "aggressive stroll down memory lane" backstage on an October 2014 edition of SmackDown and Rocky's subsequent teaming with Ronda Rousey to take down The Game and Stephanie McMahon appeared to be designed as a way to slowly build towards a 'Mania 32 battle between the legends.

For those desperate to see the Hollywood megastar go one-on-one with his Attitude Era enemy one more time, though, the consistent source of frustration that is Dwayne Johnson's increasingly busy schedule eventually killed all hopes they had of Rock vs. Triple H actually appearing on the 32nd Showcase of the Immortals' card.

Both men wanted to deliver the 'Mania goods for a time, that much is evident. But all of the teases in the world still couldn't keep Hollywood from pulling Rocky away from The Grandest Stage.

And not for the last time...
