10 Wrestling Moments EVERYONE Expected To Happen (That Never Did)
3. The Icon Vs. The Deadman
Speaking of often fantasised about dream contests that once looked destined to grace the Grandest Stage for a few years there, a battle between Icon and Deadman was one that finally looked to be a genuine possibility from 2014 onwards.
Instead of throwing Sting into a storyline that would have eventually seen him coming up against an equally mythical in-ring figure in The Undertaker, though, Vince McMahon opted to simply use the one-time WCW man as another way to utterly bury his already dead former rival.
And before WWE could deliver Sting's own wish of battling against The Phenom before his time in their squared-circle was up, Stinger was struck down by injury in 2015 and never wrestled again for the Sports Entertainment giant.
As the years would pass by, though, Sting still seemed game enough to go one last round on WWE programming against his fellow legend, even hinting at a cinematic showdown between the pair after 'Taker's hugely successful Boneyard outing at 'Mania 36.
But Vince clearly wasn't as into it as Sting or those crying out for the dream bout online were. And Sting's days in the ring now look certain to end over in AEW without a Demon of Death Valley in sight.
