“Black Saturday”.

That's what wrestling historians came to regard 14 July 1984 as. Back then, Vince McMahon ousted the long-standing Georgia Championship Wrestling program on Ted Turner's Superstation and started showing glitzy tapes of his WWF matches instead.

It didn't take long for the relationship between Vince and Ted to sour. Friction between the pair, as well as Turner's disappointment in sagging ratings, eventually prompted Teddy to get more involved in the pro wrasslin' business - his interest then flourished into remoulding the NWA into WCW and going after McMahon as a viable competitor.

Many wanted to stick it to Vince after his aggressive expansion, but Ted was one of the only guys with pockets deep enough to take a real swing at him. His motivation to go after the WWF might not have happened without the fallout from "Black Saturday" or Vince's behaviour throughout the whole ordeal.

In short, the coming WCW vs. WWF war wouldn't have happened without this spark.
