7. McMahon Fires Jeff Jarrett On TV

It's incredible to think now, but Jeff Jarrett genuinely believed that Vinnie Mac was trying to start an angle with him when he publicly fired the WCW star on Raw in March 2001. Ol' J-E-Double-F admitted that during his recent appearance on Steve Austin's 'Broken Skull Sessions' show.

McMahon wasn't working anything; he was legitimately telling Jarrett that he wouldn't be welcome in the WWF. Jeff, who quickly realised the truth, knew his options were limited but had a lucrative (and guaranteed) AOL/Time Warner contract to fall back on for another few months.

After that dried up, he started TNA in 2002.

The company now known as Impact Wrestling wouldn't have been a twinkle in Jarrett's eye had McMahon flashed his knickers at him in 2001. Jeff figured he had name value and another WWF run in him when Vince bought the remnants of WCW. He was wrong, and had to launch his own promotion to stay busy.
