Having suffered a career-ending injury, the return to the ring of Shawn Michaels was something that was a surprise to near-enough every wrestling fan. The fact that the Heartbreak Kid's triumphant return to action was 13 years ago is even more surprising.

Truth be told, it doesn't even feel really all that long ago that Michaels had to hang it up the first time, although that was way back in 1998. Then there's HBK's second retirement, which again it's staggering to think it's 5 years since Shawn really called time on his career. His second Wrestlemania match against The Undertaker, in which he retired after a losing effort, seems like it was only yesterday. Maybe that's more a testament to just how great and memorable that match was, though.

To think that Shawn Michaels returned from retirement a whole 13 years ago and then went on to have arguably the best years of his career is testament to the man and to those who he tied up with. But really, it's 13 years since a jeans-wearing Michaels reversed a Pedigree and grabbed a quick 1-2-3 over Triple H in his comeback match? Sadly that is indeed the case.

Feeling old yet? Fear not, for there's far more to come.
