10 Wrestling Moves That Worked For One Wrestler (But Not Another)
9. Ankle Lock
There's no getting around the fact that some moves are just so iconic that it's a near-impossible task to use said weapon without people constantly chastising you for not executing it as well as its previous owner.
Luckily for Kurt Angle, when it came time to dust off Ken Shamrock's ankle lock for his own personal use in the squared-circle, not only did the star manage to put his own spin on the submission - grape-vining for maximum damage - he also earned praise from the former UFC star himself.
The same sadly can't be said for the likes of the former Jack Swagger, though, as Jake Hager quickly found himself in the shadow of the two titanic names when trying to make his own ankle lock a thing. Despite Angle admitting that he wasn't upset about him using the finishing lock, the Hall of Famer has gone on record to state that Hager using the move in WWE was likely just an attempt to replace the Olympic hero in the wake of his sudden departure.
Hager may still whack it out on occasion in AEW, but it's little surprise he's generally opted for other ways to get the job done post-WWE.
