10 Wrestling Pay-Per-Views That Tried Something... Different
7. ECW One Night Stand 2005
ECW One Night Stand from 2005 is still talked about as one of the greatest wrestling events ever. Four years after it had died an embarrassing death, Extreme Championship Wrestling rose from the ashes of a flaming table to give the world "one last show". Emanating from the Hammerstein Ballroom (the site of the original ECW's final PPV), One Night Stand was jam-packed with nostalgia from the Philadelphia promotion's heyday.
Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman, Mike Awesome, The Dudley Boyz, and more put on violent matches the likes of which had never been seen on WWE programming - yes, despite being labelled as "ECW" One Night Stand, this show was put on and promoted by the WWE. WWE contracted wrestlers even appeared and performed on the show with none other than Stone Cold helping to close out the night.
This show wasn't different purely because of the hardcore matches; this was WWE acknowledging and celebrating a company other than themselves. The show felt (and still feels) totally unique and its success led to the revival of ECW as a third brand for the company. Although, the less said about that, the better.
