10 Wrestling PPV Matches Allocated Far Too Little Time
4. CM Punk Vs. The Undertaker - WWE Hell In A Cell 2009
Match Length: 10:24
Why it was too short: The Hell In A Cell match, by design, is meant to be an epic; the last resort available between two equal stars with a shared and pointed hatred for one another. The best Cell matches have easily cleared twenty minutes, and with good reason: anything less would have done a disservice to the feud, the men involved, and the stipulation itself.
This wasn't the case here. Punk infamously riled WWE management by indirectly comparing himself to John Cena following his opponent on the night's suggestion that he dress more appropriately for a champion.
Naturally, his punishment was doled out onscreen. He was easily defeated in what was record time for a Cell match.
The match was well on its way to becoming something special, too. Punk in his well-acted role as blustering heel devised some very inventive sequences to snatch the advantage away from the 'Dead Man', the best of which saw him scuttle under the ring curtain only to emerge on the other side and dropkick the steel steps into 'Taker's knee.
His Old School into a GTS variation reversal was also a thing of beauty, but the excitement peaked there. 'Taker picked up the anticlimactic win shortly afterwards.
Punk as champion wasn't even granted the courtesy, as per tradition, of making his entrance after his challenger.
