10 Wrestling Promo Masters Who Never Needed A Script

2. The Rock

During The Rock's comeback feud with John Cena in the run-up to WrestleMania 28, there came a moment when the biggest star of the current generation mocked the Brahma Bull for having his promo notes written on his wrist. It was an unscripted line, and one which reportedly caused the Great One to bristle indignantly backstage. The fact that this slight would have wounded Rocky's pride is entirely understandable, especially given his status as one of the most amazingly charismatic wrestlers in history. The Attitude Era featured some of the most unique, eye-catching promo-cutters in WWE history - yet nobody stood out more than The Rock. His style is unforgettably distinctive - that unmistakable rhythm, building over several stages to one of many mainstream-breaching catchphrases. "If you smell what The Rock is cooking!", "Finally, The Rock has come back...!", "It doesn't matter what your name is!", the list goes on and on. The Rock brought back the lost art of the backstage promo, and attained a level of crowd interaction nobody seems to have bettered before or since. Although many believe Austin to be the true star of the Attitude Era, the Rock pushes himself well into contention on the back of his amazingly infectious charisma. His subsequent mainstream success is no surprise at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k_QYTaWe14
