10 Wrestling Promo Masters Who Never Needed A Script

9. Mick Foley

Few wrestlers are as capable of generating sympathy as Mick Foley. In an industry centred around large men beating the crap out of one another, pathos seems an unlikely quality to attempt to draw from one's bloodthirsty audience. Foley, with his oft-breaking voice and kindly demeanour (one of wrestling's great paradoxes, considering his merciless in-ring style), found a way to inspire sorrow and heartbreak from even the most hardened of fans. Effective as both a face and heel, Foley was many booker's go-to-guy when in need of a moving speech. Who could forget his bizarrely heelish 'Cane Dewey' promo in ECW, in which he rounded upon wrestling's most rabid fans in a raw, intense manner. Similarly rousing was his 2000 feud with Triple H, in which he denounced his Mankind persona and brought back the sadistic Cactus Jack, whipping fans into a frenzy and causing Triple H to physically recoil in terror. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bj7BYGXYS4 To top it all off, his stint as a comedic Commissioner proved that humour was yet another string to Foley's charismatic bow. His skits with Edge, Christian and Kurt Angle provided some of the most legitimately funny moments of the Attitude Era.
