10 Wrestling Promo Masters Who Never Needed A Script
8. Dusty Rhodes
Most of the entries in this list are included for consistently great promos throughout their career. Although an infectiously enthusiastic, heartwarming figure, Dusty Rhodes is in here for one moment only - the legendary 'Hard Times' promo. Engaged in an intense rivalry with the jet-setting Ric Flair during their time in Mid-Atlantic Wrestling, Rhodes solidified himself as a working class hero with a timeless criticism of everything the Nature Boy stood for, talking up the plight of blue-collar Americans everywhere. The fact that this righteous fury came spouting from the mouth of the usually cheery Rhodes only added to the speech's gravitas and timeless nature. Although often clumsy and rambling in his speech (especially on commentary, as immortalised in many a Botchamania video), Dusty solidified himself as one of the most charismatic figures in wrestling history with this interview, a strong contender for one of the best babyface promos ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9py4aMK3aIU
