10 Wrestling Rivalries Too Personal To Be Fake

8. Jeff Hardy Vs. CM Punk

After defeating Edge in a ladder match, Jeff Hardy had finally become World Heavyweight Champion. However, this wouldn't last long as shortly after Mr. Money In The Bank, CM Punk stormed the ring and cashed in his briefcase. Before long Punk was lifting the big gold belt in the air. This would slowly lead to a heel turn for Punk.

After Punk officially turned heel, the pair scrapped over the title for months which eventually led to a steel cage match. The catch was that whoever lost this match would leave the WWE for real. This was WWE's way of writing Hardy off TV after he had numerous Wellness Policy violations.

You may think the feud finished here but it continued for real. Given Punk's straight edge lifestyle and Hardy's problems with substance abuse it was only a matter of time before it spilled over.

After Hardy left, Punk continued to cut promos on him to the displeasure of The Charismatic Enigma. Hardy responded with a video thrashing Punk. Luckily, Jeff has managed to get his personal demons largely under control, and has since returned to WWE.
