10 Wrestling Rivalries Too Personal To Be Fake

One of the more infamous cases of wrestling feuds spilling over into real life is this one. It revolves around the love triangle of Matt Hardy, Lita and Edge.

In 2005, after dating Hardy for six years, Lita began an affair with Matt's close friend Edge. The story quickly made its way around the internet and Hardy was not afraid to let his feelings be known. Perhaps venting his frustration on social media wasn't the best idea as he'd soon learn. Eventually, this led to Matt Hardy's first release from the company in April.

Shockingly, Matt would return and the real life issues would soon play into a feud between between himself and Edge. It's hard to imagine what this must have been like for the three performers but it was certainly memorable.

Edge in particular got a lot out of this storyline, becoming the biggest heel in the company. This would even lead to him winning multiple world titles.

Hardy and Edge would later reconcile, with Hardy said to be incredibly pleased to see his old nemesis return to the ring in 2020. It would have been a shame if they hadn't as after all they are now both happily married to Beth Phoenix and Reby Hardy respectively. As for Lita, she is widely recognised as one of the trailblazers in women's wrestling regardless of this situation.
