10 Wrestling Storylines That Don't Get Enough Love
5. Blood Brothers
Marred by a dismal Deus Ex Machina finale, in which Bray Wyatt robbed fans of a happy ending all too rare in this era of constant heat, Seth Rollins Vs. Dean Ambrose was very much the simplistic, effective fall-out angle of its remit - but, quietly, it achieved far more than that.
Seth Rollins possessed the spectacular babyface repertoire, Ambrose the unhinged, scuzzy heel credentials. WWE subverted those expectations (while, at the same time, booking Roman Reigns like a caricature) in a very creative and fruitful move. Rollins, the cerebral 'Architect' of the Shield, was in retrospect the logical turncoat pick - and his cackling pr*ck character really put his heel act over. Ambrose meanwhile performed his babyface as a hard-luck spiritual successor to the never-say-die attitude Terry Funk, palpably driven by betrayal. When Ambrose announced his intention to wage war with Rollins in a Lumberjack match at SummerSlam '14, many rolled their eyes - but the old school battleground matched the traditional ambition of the feud perfectly. Much like the elemental stakes behind the feud, Ambrose and Rollins truly elevated the mundane, over-exposed stip.
Rendering something authentic from a 101 plot device, this would have been a 100% success - were it not for that. F*cking. Hologram.
