10 Wrestling Storylines That Killed A Character

4. Hawk - Death By Pushing

In another example of crass and extremely insensitive storytelling, WWE would exploit Michael Hegstrand's real life alcohol and depression problems and book him in a suicide angle. Hawk would continuously threaten to commit suicide in one of the most repugnant stories ever greenlit.

This culminated in him climbing the Titantron and threatening to jump, while new partner Puke (Droz) climbed up to try and talk him out of it. Puke would actually "push" Hawk off the Tron, resulting in his "death" while fans watched on, disgusted.

This led to Hawk and Animals departure from the company and Hawk officially being dead (though they did return for one more match in 2003). They had rightfully had enough of WWE's offensive booking. It remains one of the most despised moments in WWE history.

This was made all the worse by Hegstrands real-life passing in 2003.

As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG. I may have a problem! But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
