10 Wrestling Tag Teams That Got The WORST Gimmicks After Splitting
3. The Prime Time Players
A handful of modern fans might giggle at this, but Darren Young and Titus O'Neil were perfectly acceptable as over-the-top goofs the Prime Time Players. They had chemistry together, and often deserved better than WWE were prepared to give them. That didn't stop creative from splitting them more than once.
The 2016 split was way worse than their first in 2014.
WWE brought Bob Backlund back out of storage to "Make Darren Young Great Again". The idea, though a laugh for a few weeks, didn't garner much interest in what Young could do solo. 'Coach' Backlund was also just too out there and weird for most kids to root for, and WWE abandoned the project around six months into it.
O'Neil's own 'Titus Worldwide' brand didn't do much for his stock either. Enlisting Dana Brooke and Apollo Crews made it look like Titus was trying to recreate 1998's J.O.B Squad more than take over, and WWE realised that the group weren't onto much. The only thing of note Titus did during this time was literally slide into view at the Greatest Royal Rumble.
