2. G1 Climax
The G1 Climax is a yearly tournament held in August by New Japan Pro Wrestling and one of the promotions most prestigious events. Two blocks are comprised of 18 to 24 wrestlers where the winner of each is determined by a point system based on wins, loses and draws. The two finalists square off to determine the overall winner. Claiming victory in this event often catapults a wrestlers career and serves as a clear indicator of who is the present and future of New Japan. Names such as Masahiro Chono, Keiji Mutoh, Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Shinsuke Nakamura have won this grueling week long tournament. In 2014, the G1 Climax winners trophy was reborn in a new design which was won by Kazuchika Okada, which was his second tournament win and the first person to hold the traditional golden design with a large G engraved into the head piece of the trophy and new version with the wave designs on the side.
