7. Mabel Wins King Of The Ring - King Of The Ring 1995
Go ahead and read that bold text again. I'll wait. Sounds ridiculous and unbelievable, right? In June 1995, though, WWE managed to book that idiotic outcome in the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia. The fans' response to Mabel's win was neither brotherly nor love as they rained down on the events unfolding before them with furious anger and chants of "ECW" as the super-heavyweight downed Savio Vega in a final round King of the Ring tournament match that was as exciting as watching paint dry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R4Fp8FGmiE The tournament field was a mixture of perpetual jobbers and Hall of Famers. Sure, The Roadie and Bob "Spark Plugg" Holly were involved but Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker and Yokozuna were RIGHT THERE and would have benefited the company in ways that Mabel could have only dreamed of. Sure, WWE was attempting to create new stars but their gamble was a colossal misstep and stands some 21 years later as one of WWE's worst booking decisions.
