8. The Gatekeeper
One of Cena's recent character turns, as the 'Face That Runs The Place', had him stating the way to the top of the WWE went through him and anyone who wanted to get there had to prove themselves against John Cena. Expanding on the idea could see Cena establishing himself once more as the 'Gatekeeper to Greatness', the test every superstar has to pass before they can consider themselves a main event contender.
After dispatching a parade of wannabe heels, a young, hot face takes up the challenge of the Gatekeeper. Cena eagerly accepts to see what the kid's got.
The newcomer defeats Cena in an upset, after which the vanquished veteran hands hands his blessing - and kudos - to the new hero. Cena withdraws from competition in the wake of his defeat, and a new face gets a major boost in the audience's esteem.
