10 WWE Angles To Retire John Cena

9. The Final Test

John Cena waves goodbye
WWE

As an established veteran, Cena is the perfect choice to take an inexperienced but talented young wrestler under his wing, form an alliance, teach him the ropes, and try to mould him into a crowd favourite. The angle takes advantage of Cena's age and history, and lets him dial down his number of appearances in the ring while still letting him mix things up once in a while.

The alliance could exist in storyline and reality with Cena acting as a mentor in front of and behind the camera. Then, with the newbie established as his own man, Cena tells him he still has to prove himself with one final test: Cena himself.

Cena places himself as the ultimate challenge for his young charge. With his mentor defeated, the young wrestler can move beyond his mentorship and strike out on his own. He just has to prove he's earned it. In a respectful but hard-fought fight, Cena is defeated, and retired behind the curtain as his one-time pupil takes his place.
