10 WWE Attitude Era Disasters That Even Jim Ross Couldn’t Get Over
6. Pat Patterson Vs. Gerald Brisco In An Evening Gown Match
The Hardcore division spawned many lows during the Attitude Era, but very few moments could contend with the Evening Gown Match between Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco for the Hardcore Championship. As if the title didn't already have enough trouble appearing legitimate, here come these two dingleberries to pull each other's fake hair and try to strip each other's dresses off. Before, Patterson tries his best to make the stakes seem high. Not only are they wrestling for the Hardcore title, they're also wrestling for...their friendship? Basically, Patterson tries to give Brisco an out, saying that he doesn't want to beat the hell out of his friend (who's wearing a bra and lipstick) but that he will beat the hell out of him if he has to (while wearing a bra and lipstick). Jim Ross, meanwhile, can't quite decide whether or not to take any part of this match seriously, especially considering the earnest speech Patterson just gave. So instead, he alternates between expressing his regret to people who paid money to see this event ("What has our business come to?") and genuinely trying to call the match ("Brisco's a Southpaw...if it matters"). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tdOJw0AGqs After a few minutes of this identity crisis, and way too many references to cross-dressing and sanitary napkins (don't ask), even the most competent announcer in the history of the industry can't hold back the giggles while he concedes, "This is hideous, King." The match is almost salvaged by Crash Holly's interference and J.R.'s excited admission that Crash was there to "stop the pain."
