10 WWE Attitude Era Disasters That Even Jim Ross Couldn’t Get Over

7. Big Boss Man Disrespects Big Show's Dead Dad

Remember that very unknowingly slapstick angle where Big Boss Man harassed Big Show over the death of his father? Ya know, right after Big Show's real dad actually died. In, uh, real life. It had Big Show riding atop his father's casket as it was pulled around by a chain attached to the vehicle Boss Man was driving. Classic stuff, am I right? No, of course it wasn't. It was stupid and inadvertently silly and in super poor taste. And although that's the scene most viewers remember, there was a bit more to it. For example, Boss Man also wrote a horribly offensive poem about Show's dead dad that he read in the ring. And nobody sounded more disgusted by it than J.R. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhSh35ryueA After every line, J.R. audibly voiced his revulsion. After all, since the whole point of this angle was to turn the heat way up on Boss Man, J.R. had to sell the horribleness of it all.
"I am not believing what we're hearing here. That is the most pathetic human being I think I've ever seen in this business."
Except, it was just way too horrible. And so over-the-top that it didn't come off as even slightly realistic, despite the fact that, again, Paul Wight's real father had just passed away. Jerry Lawler's perfectly timed "This is not good" is almost as good as J.R.'s sincere, deadpan reaction: "No. It isn't."
