10 WWE Attitude Era PPV Matches That Are Severely Underrated
2. The Hardy Boyz Vs. The Dudley Boyz - Royal Rumble 2000
Although it's difficult to say that The Hardy Boyz or The Dudley Boyz ever really got their due in the WWE, they've at least received plenty of recognition for some of their outstanding tag matches with each other (as well as Edge & Christian) over the years. For the most part, anyhow. When discussing this trio of tag teams, what immediately comes to mind is their trifecta of TLC matches (that includes what was originally billed as a Triangle Ladder Match at WrestleMania 16), in which they repeatedly upped the ante of what a person's body could be put through without having to bury a close friend a few days later. And although those are some hellacious, inventive matches, they also unfairly overshadow this Tag Team Table Match from 2000's Royal Rumble. Compared to the Triangle Ladder Match, this is nothing less than a work of art. Whereas the former spent had far too much downtime, eating big chunks out of the clock to set up specific stunts that had no real rationale or escalation, the table match is an example of perfect pacing. At its heart, this was a very clever game of cat and mouse with competitors constantly trying to keep themselves (and their partners) from going through a table at all costs. The only time this match lags a little is at the very end, right before two huge spots, one of which involves Bubba Ray getting smashed with a chair and falling off the balcony and through two tables, and the other features the first of many Jeff Hardy Swanton Bombs through a table. Also, Jeff Hardy deserves an award for how he took that table to the face after jumping off the barricade.
