10 WWE Backlash Matches That Should Have Happened At WrestleMania

1. The Rock Vs. Triple H - 2000

One of the best matches of the Attitude Era should have happened at WrestleMania.

The year 2000 started with The Rock winning the Royal Rumble match in a botched finish. Big Show claimed to be the true winner, then won the Brahma Bull's title match at No Way Out as Triple H retired Mick Foley on the same night.

A month later it was all about the McMahons. The Rock was added to the match by Vince after pinning the World's Largest Athlete, then Foley was brought out of retirement by Linda to make it a Fatal Four Way. Stephanie was backing her husband Triple H, while Show had Shane in his corner.

Nobody wanted to see it, but the match main evented 'Mania 2000. The Game became the first heel to leave the Show of Shows as WWE Champion after Vince betrayed The Rock; a lacklustre way to end a disappointing pay-per-view.

WWE righted the wrong a month later at Backlash with a match that would have saved 'Mania 2000 from the scrapheap.

It was The Rock Vs. Triple H one-on-one at last. Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco got involved, the McMahons were everywhere, and Linda had to intervene with Earl Hebner. The biggest moment was when an injured "Stone Cold" Steve Austin returned to even the odds. It was an iconic moment during a chaotic match that had the crowd on their feet. They don't make them like this anymore.

Putting this match in the main event of WrestleMania 2000 is a no-brainer... so which booker at WWE didn't have a brain when they were putting the card together? Not having that "Stone Cold" pop on the Grandest Stage of Them All might be the biggest oversight in 'Mania history...

When I'm not trying my hardest to visit all 50 U.S. states, I'm listening to music from the 80s, watching TV from the 90s, and reminiscing about growing up in the 00s. I'm currently living in Melbourne, Australia so WWE premium live events are on Sunday afternoons for me; the absolute dream.
