10 WWE Backlash Matches That Should Have Happened At WrestleMania
6. Rhea Ripley Vs. Asuka Vs. Charlotte Flair - 2021
Nobody wanted to see Charlotte Flair added to the Women's Championship match between Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35, but she should have been in it two years later.
Heading into 'Mania 37, under the thunder in Florida, Rhea Ripley was ready to face Asuka for the Raw Women's Championship. Ripley made her main roster debut just a month before the Grandaddy, challenging the Empress of Tomorrow on her first night on Raw. Sure, she'd had a WrestleMania match before, but she was still a part of the NXT brand at that point.
New Year's Day played Rhea's entrance theme, Brutality, as she made her way to the ring; a telltale sign that WWE was going all-in on their new star. It's hard for Asuka to have a bad match and to be fair to both of them, this was an entertaining contest. WWE was ready to put the strap on Ripley after Asuka had held the division together for the last 231 days.
A Riptide later and the belt was on the Australian superstar, but the match that solidified her status at the top of the Women's division came at the bizarrely named WrestleMania Backlash. Charlotte Flair returned the night after 'Mania and did what she does best: inserted herself into the title picture. It was completely warranted here though; she made the rematch even better.
With how the Queen has been booked since debuting, there's always a chance that WWE will give her the belt. In the end it was another Riptide that saw off Asuka, but everybody in this match looked strong. Considering they love to make Flair the final boss of the women's division, it's surprising they waited until after WrestleMania to bring her back.
