10 WWE Backlash Matches That Should Have Happened At WrestleMania

WWE had been teasing this match for a long time. At Survivor Series in 2018, Charlotte Flair turned heel when she attacked Ronda Rousey in a match for brand supremacy. If only the crowd hadn't cheered her, their rematch might have come a lot sooner. Becky Lynch was becoming "The Man" and plans for Flair-Rousey 2 at WrestleMania 35 had to be shelved.

Eventually, Ronda calmed down and came back to WWE, winning the Royal Rumble match in the least shocking result in history to setup a bout for the ages on the Grandest Stage of Them All. The SmackDown Women's Championship was on the line, but it was still a dud.

Hold after hold after hold ended with a ref bump and, of all the moves in Charlotte's arsenal, ended with a Big Boot. A Big Boot! The story leading into the match wasn't anything to write home about either, as if WWE thought their names were enough to sell the match.

Sometimes WWE shies away from having certain gimmick matches at 'Mania, but switching this washout for their "I Quit" match at WrestleMania Backlash would have made so much of a difference.

Their rematch showed how much of a blood feud this was. They fought in the crowd, hit each other with kendo sticks, and even threw cameras around. It was a contest that showed how much they hated one another. Rousey won after breaking Flair's radial bone with an Arm Bar, making her shout "I quit" to surrender her title.

If WrestleMania is the biggest show of the year, why not crown Ronda as the SmackDown Women's Champion on the Grandest Stage in the best match possible?

When I'm not trying my hardest to visit all 50 U.S. states, I'm listening to music from the 80s, watching TV from the 90s, and reminiscing about growing up in the 00s. I'm currently living in Melbourne, Australia so WWE premium live events are on Sunday afternoons for me; the absolute dream.
