10 WWE Bait And Switches Which Actually Worked

Just because it wasn't advertised doesn't mean it wasn't awesome.

How many times have we seen WWE promise us one thing, only for them to deliver something entirely different come show time?

Cards are always 'subject to change' after all and the company has often used this get out of jail free card to their advantage whenever a star unexpectedly goes down injured.

It's not always a sudden side-lining which forces this unexpected alteration, however. No, sometimes Vince McMahon just changes things up because 'anything can happen in the WWE!' Then, more often than not, a cr*p alternative to what we'd actually turned up to see is then ushered onto our screens.

That latter instance has often been referred to as a 'bait and switch'.

In other words, WWE lure you in with one thing and then just when you thought you were going to get what you expected they throw a lovely curve ball right at your face. This then tends to p*ss you off.

But, as your writer likes to look on the positive side of things, they thought they'd show you the times when these last minute shifts actually worked a treat.

Even if that means that some of these entries don't technically qualify as traditional 'bait and switches'. Sue me, let's look on the bright side for a change.

10. Mustafa Ali Vs. Daniel Bryan Vs. Kevin Owens (Fastlane 2019)

Kofi Kingston was going through something of a difficult spell - storyline-wise that is - in March 2019.

He'd been positioned as the overwhelming top babyface over on SmackDown Live thanks to the WWE Universe backing the 'New Day' member ever since his outstanding last-minute appearance in a gauntlet match before that year's Elimination Chamber.

After the Chamber match, Kingston was granted a one-on-one title bout against WWE Champion Daniel Bryan at Fastlane after pinning the champ in a six man tag match on SmackDown Live. However, just before Kingston and Bryan signed the contract the following week, Vince McMahon popped up and replaced Kingston with a returning Kevin Owens.

Then, in another unexpected twist, on the night of the PPV McMahon decided to grant Kingston a spot in the WWE title match - thus turning the bout into a triple threat.

Yet, after Kingston made his way to the ring, McMahon announced that he'd changed his mind again and Kingston would instead be facing The Bar in a two-on-one handicap match - which he would eventually lose.

Despite that heartbreaking moment earlier in the night, we did still get a triple threat WWE title match in the form of D-Bry vs. Owens vs. another returnee in the form of Mustafa Ali - who was unfortunate to be met with a muted response due to not being Kingston.

All three men wrestled out of their skin for nearly twenty minutes before Ali was running knee'd in mid-air and Bryan pinned him to retain his gold.

It wasn't the Kofi match we were hoping for, but this bait and switch still produced a pretty entertaining spectacle in the end.
