10 WWE Careers That Ended Too Soon Due To Injury

5. British Bulldog

Davey Boy Smith was incredibly popular as part of the British Bulldogs during heydey of the late-eighties, and ping-ponged back and forth between WWF and WCW a couple of times before landing in WCW in 1998.

He was initially engaged in a feud with former football player/WCW commentator Steve "Mongo" McMichael who was lashing out at wrestlers who came over from WWF, but aside from that he was just one of many former WWF stars WCW signed just to sign them.

Bulldog was severely injured at Fall Brawl 1998, when during a tag-match against Alex Wright and Disco Inferno, Smith landed awkwardly on a trap door in the ring that was there for The Ultimate Warrior to arrive through later in the night.

Bulldog contracted a spinal infection that nearly killed him, and during his six months in the hospital, he received a FedEx from WCW terminating his contract with the organisation.

Davey Boy returned to WWF but was a lot more limited with what he could do in the ring, and had unfortunately developed an addiction to painkillers which eventually resulted in his release.

Tragically, Bulldog died in 2002 from a heart attack which was caused by past abuse of anabolic steroids and other drugs, but his legacy is carried on by his son D.H. Smith, who currently wrestles in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
