10 WWE Castoffs Who Are Killing It In AEW

4. Christian Cage

When Christian returned to the ring for real at Royal Rumble 2021, it felt like it was going to just be a “nice to see you” moment, a cup of coffee to give Captain Charisma one spotlight alongside his best friend Edge after being forced to retire seven years earlier.

But Christian’s performance in the Rumble was better than expected, making it to the final four, and you had to wonder if he might have a late-career renaissance, like Shawn Michaels or Edge. However, WWE wasn’t about to let him get that opportunity, and he was never locked up. So off to AEW Christian Cage went.

In AEW, Cage has been partnered with Jurassic Express, an odd pairing at first that has blossomed into a wonderful collaboration that has seen Christian become one of the very few to defeat Kenny Omega, besting him for the Impact World Championship. The Instant Classic also has racked off a series of solid singles, tag and trios matches since returning to active competition, proving a lot of people wrong that the 47-year-old still has something left in the tank.

More notably, Chrisitan has clearly helped Jungle Boy grow and evolve as a performer during these past few months, as the veteran has served as something of a mentor for the young performer. It really is the best-case scenario and has made the signing of Cage one of AEW’s shrewdest moves.
