The Hulkster’s associated with an excess of celebrities in the squared circle. Dennis Rodman, Jay Leno and Mr. T to name a few. But none would have been more epic than a showdown with The Baddest Man on the Planet. WWE once wanted their biggest attraction Hulk Hogan to square off against boxing titan Mike Tyson in a worked fight.

This would have been a gigantic box office attraction back in the day. There were no two bigger stars in their respective sports than Hogan and Tyson, so much so they both crossed over into the mainstream to become household names.

The Immortal One and Iron Mike was once on the cards. Tyson was signed/announced to referee a match between Hulk and Randy Savage at The Main Event on NBC in 1990, but he backed out after losing a huge upset to Buster Douglas a few weeks prior to the show. Douglas actually ended up replacing Tyson as the referee in the World Heavyweight Championship bout.

Bruce Prichard mentioned on his aforementioned podcast the reason the match between Hogan and Tyson never took place was the logistics, with Mike’s manager/promoter Don King being tricky to do business with. Plus, neither man could really lose, even in a scripted fight:

“The reality of ever getting to that? What the hell do you do with it. You can’t beat Tyson, you can’t beat Hulk. And it was not a situation where both guys could look good.”
