WWE had, clearly, been preparing 'The Architect' for his stint as WWE Champion for nearly a year, having waited so patiently for the opportune time to have him cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase.
In the end, that time was WrestleMania 31 in Santa Clara, where he got the better of Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.
However great a moment that was, though, the nature of the way he ultimately lost the belt leaves us with a sense that Rollins - once he's done with the tag team ranks - has some unfinished business in the main event.
