Beginning the year 1999 in victorious fashion, screwing 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and winning the Royal Rumble, Vin Man had a change of heart later that year, following Triple H's interest in his daughter Stephanie.
Mired in a battle to save the future Mrs. Helmsley, papa McMahon challenged Triple H for his recently won WWF Championship in September. With Shane as referee, McMahon endured a an ass-whooping from his future son-in law until his old rival Austin came to his aid, stunning Trips and draping McMahon's limp body over for the win.
The boyhood dream had finally come true, for 54 year old Vinnie Mac - the oldest WWE champion of all time.
The reign would be short-lived however, as the proprietor of the Kiss My Ass Club decided he wasn't really a wrestler and relinquished his own property a week later.
McMahon's championship win was the 9th of a 12 WWE title changes in 1999, the highest frequency of changes in a calendar year.
The boss' victory doubtlessly lent credence to Vince Russo's belief that titles are of little worth, as he made himself world champion in similar fashion next year in WCW
