Terry Gordy, meanwhile, did.

This is a double entry, because it'd be remiss not to mention that Jim Ross hired Mick Foley as foil for The Undertaker in 1996. His new Mankind character was a tortured soul and a different breed of monster for 'Taker to feud with. It was so successful that the WWF thought they could duplicate Mankind's menace.

So, The Executioner was born. A beaten-up and out-of-sorts Gordy was placed under a hood and became 'Taker's next victim to bridge the gap between Mankind and Vader (Paul Bearer's soon-to-be other client). It didn't really work; Gordy wasn't at his best, and fans struggled to take him seriously as a threat to their favourite.

Both gimmicks perfectly told the story of two wrestlers at very different points in their respective careers. Foley, as Mankind, was raring to go and prove himself as essential, whereas Gordy wasn't a great fit and didn't have nearly as much chance of succeeding.
