The Beast vs. The Best.

SummerSlam 2013 had two fantastic main event matches, one of which pitted the two most infamous 'Paul Heyman Guys' against one another. Brock Lesnar and CM Punk did battle in one of the most intense matches in recent memory, a bout that was arguably the closest thing World Wrestling Entertainment has had to a legitimate fight feel in years.

Which should come as no surprise, knowing what we do about CM Punk and Brock Lesnar. The lives of the two men are surprisingly similar, despite them also simultaneously being each other's opposite. Lesnar is an athlete's athlete, a huge hunk of ham come to life, who has made the most of his natural gifts. Punk was more about hard work, about dragging oneself towards goals regardless of what you are told.

Yet they have both excelled in the world of professional wrestling, have both been signed to UFC and both managed to put themselves in strong negotiating positions with the WWE. The SummerSlam 2013 No Disqualification match was their only bout in WWE, but what a match it was.

For the record, Lesnar won after the meddling of Paul Heyman became too much for Punk, an F5 on a steel chair sealing his fate.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man.
