10 WWE Elimination Chamber Records That May Never Be Broken
6. Most Awkward Match
Even though this is by no means an official record, it's one that I felt the need to highlight, nonetheless.
In 2015, a somewhat watered-down Elimination Chamber PPV staged the most awkward match in the stipulation’s history when King Barrett, R-Truth, Mark Henry, Dolph Ziggler, Sheamus and Ryback competed for the vacant Intercontinental Championship.
The first problem arose in the form of Barrett accidentally breaking Henry’s pod, resulting in the big man prematurely entering the fray after an exchange of panicked looks with the referee. In fairness, there wasn’t much to be done about that - but either way, the ensuing action degenerated into an absolute mess.
Nobody knew where they should be, what they should be doing, or who was even legal in the match. Spots were botched or just missed out completely as the guys in the ring desperately tried to stitch together some kind of story.
Then, to make matters worse, the commentary team completely failed to pick up on Sheamus’ clever tactic of locking his pod shut with his necklace, making this spot look like yet another blunder in a match that will surely - hopefully - be forever known as the most awkward Elimination Chamber meeting in history.
