10 WWE Events Out Of Daniel Bryan's Control That Made His Career
2. The Neck Surgery
The neck surgery that cost Bryan his World Heavyweight Championship match and nearly a year of his career actually began from an injury he suffered in 2013, in an infamous match with Randy Orton on Monday Night Raw. This was supposed to be the match where Bryan would beat Orton and be made at the top of the card. Bryan attempted a suicide dive to the outside, but landed head-first into the guardrail and suffered a stinger. Later in the match, Bryan attempted a top rope missile dropkick, which he usually follows with a kip up. After the dropkick, Bryan lost feeling in his extremities for a couple seconds, and the referee stopped the match. Infamously, Bryan got into a legit argument with Triple H, claiming that in 13 years of wrestling, never before had one of his matches been legitimately stopped due to injury. It was this match which led to Bryan having nerve damage, and had he dealt with it early, he may not have needed the neck surgery which would end his championship reign. On the flip side, Bryan was the hottest wrestler in the company at that time, and taking time off due to injury may have seriously derailed his momentum.
