Ahead of WWE's return to Hawaii last year for a house show - its first date in the 'Paradise of the Pacific' for more than five years - rumours began to appear that they would broadcast the event as a Network special.

It would be called Bash at the Beach, so the story went, in a nod to the classic pay-per-view that became a staple part of rival promotion WCW during the 1990s.

We were even promised first-time, WrestleMania-worthy matches including Shinsuke Nakamura versus John Cena, Kevin Owens versus Brock Lesnar, and Asuka versus Charlotte.

But it was all a big ruse - the story had no foundation whatsoever. Not only was the event not being shown on the WWE Network, but its card had yet to even be formalised, and Brock Lesnar wasn't even scheduled to appear.
