As we mentioned earlier, Seth Rollins was at a bit of a crossroads with the WWE Universe back in mid-2019.
He'd successfully conquered Brock Lesnar, Baron Corbin, Braun Strowman and even teamed with the hottest property in the company (who just so happened to be his partner!) 'The Man' Becky Lynch, but he still wasn't eliciting the sort of response he'd have liked from the fans in attendance.
Unfortunately for Rollins, there was a new toy in town and his name was 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt.
Things escalated further when the two were stupidly paired together in the run up to that year's Hell in a Cell PPV. A battle for the Universal Championship in the titular match was booked and the fans' indifference towards the champ only grew by the week.
All of this negativity aimed at Rollins reached its climax at the end of a deeply disappointing HIAC match, when the live crowd verbally attacked the Champion post-sh*tshow.
A video of Rollins staring down a member of the audience holding up a 'SETH IS NOT COOL' sign spoke a thousand words. The face of the company looked visually disheartened by the fan's rejection of him.
WWE could only ignore the thunderous rebuffing of the 'Beastslayer' for so long and finally chose to strap Wyatt at Crown Jewel, before nudging Rollins back into the heel role that the WWE Universe had already accepted him in.
