Question: what do you get when you take a genuinely hot act, split them up, clumsily try to insert others into the mix and expect fans to buy it? The answer, for those keeping score, is Rusev vs. Dolph Ziggler in 2015 and one of the worst feuds in recent memory.

This just should not have happened.

Lana was excellent as Rusev's mouthpiece. When WWE decided to jazz her up and 'Americanise' her character, the results were disastrous. Rusev's attempts to replace her with Summer Rae sank like the proverbial lead ballon with fans too, and Dolph even looked like a heel by bragging about stealing Ru-Ru's girl from underneath his nose.

Nobody got over because of this. That's the exact opposite of what any feud should be hoping to achieve, and it's no surprise that WWE pushed the reset button on Lana/Rusev in 2016. By tampering with one of their best combos, the promotion were gambling on ruining their appeal for good.
