We watch wrestling mainly for the feuds. A heated rivalry is what compels us to keep tuning in week after week. We get hooked on the journeys of the men and women who can't stand each other, and just have to fight it out in the ring. They keep us coming back, and turn us into lifelong fans.

Every year gives us quite a few terrible feuds, but we also receive a few gems along the way. Those ones stick with us, and are passed down through generations, like Sammartino vs. Zbyszko, Hogan vs. Andre, The Rock vs. Austin and John Cena vs. CM Punk. For fans who lived through those incredible battles, they'll never forget watching them unfold from start to finish.

The biggest feud of 2016 has been Stephanie McMahon vs. Shane McMahon. Unfortunately for some fans, those two are very likely to never lock up in the ring. Luckily for WWE, though, they have over 100 wrestlers on Raw, SmackDown and NXT that they can book against each other to create compelling feuds next year.

With the roster split in effect, WWE’s options are a bit limited at the moment. Unless they want to ruin everything they’ve built so far, they largely have to play within the confines of what they’ve built. That shouldn’t be too much of a reason to worry, though, as there are still plenty of intriguing matches involving the three separate brands. Add in a couple of legends getting some more time in the spotlight, and 2017 could end up becoming a great year to be a fan.

Hopefully WWE gets around to these battles, otherwise they’ll be losing out on a lot of money and a ton of excitement. Here are 10 feuds that must happen in 2017.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
