10 WWE Feuds That Overstayed Their Welcome
5. Brock Lesnar Vs. Roman Reigns (2015-2018)
Roman Reigns was the apparent heir to John Cena's throne, and the journey sped up at Royal Rumble 2015 where Roman won the match and the right to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania.
WWE hadn't predicted the vicious vitriol from the crowd following Reigns' victory. Not even The Rock, bulletproof in his popularity, could stop the boos when he came out to lift Roman’s hand in celebration. It therefore made sense to delay Reigns’ coronation at 'Mania 31, and instead have Seth Rollins win the Championship via a MITB cash-in. That’s all well and good, but success in wrestling is about follow-through, whereas this feud entered into a holding pattern the likes of which had rarely been seen before.
While fans understood that Reigns would inevitably be the one to beat Lesnar, WWE simply refused to pull the trigger. During this time, Lesnar also lost against Goldberg and The Undertaker, dulling his mystique just enough to make Reigns's future win that less special.
The two met in the WrestleMania 34 main event three years after their initial encounter. This time, however... oh, wait. Reigns still lost. The rematch was held in Saudi Arabia the following month in a Steel Cage match, and roman lost again. 'The Big Dog' would finally win the title at Summerslam in August 2018 to cement his status as the top guy in WWE, by which point no one cared.
