10 WWE Feuds That Spanned Multiple Pay-Per-Views

2. Shawn Michaels Vs Chris Jericho (2008)

Two of the company's most dynamic performers produced a series of classic encounters in 2008, but WWE had never even considered the longevity the feud may actually posses.

An angle which both men have called a personal favourite, the story cultivated a complete reinvention of Jericho's flagging Y2J persona, and gifted audiences several summer months of brand new Shawn Michaels instant classics from a time when 'The Showstopper' was supposed to be winding down.

Their inaugural scuffle at The Bash was designed to be the start and end of the story, but Jericho's decimation of Shawn lead to an incredible retirement angle at Summerslam, where Jericho teased Shawn back from the brink by way of a right hook to his wife's face.

Incandescent with rage, Michaels destroyed Jericho in their unsanctioned rematch at Unforgiven, but in some neat pro wrestling storytelling, injured weasel Jericho would leave that Pay-Per-View with the World Title.

With a new reason to fight now hanging above them, the two had one of the best ladder matches of the modern era, culminating with an epic tug of war spot with the swinging title.

One of the best examples of finding new and enhanced reasons to keep fighting, the two ring generals made each match count, and could have comfortably justified even more time than their four big shows afforded.
