10 WWE Feuds That Spanned Multiple Pay-Per-Views

3. John Cena vs Edge (2006)

If it took Edge's series with The Undertaker to 'make' the Rated-R Superstar, then it took this war to truly establish John Cena.

As the victim of the first ever Money In The Bank cash-in, Cena's lengthy first WWE Title reign came to an end at Edge's hands at New Years Revolution, in what would prophetically prove to be short reign for the Canadian. Though Cena reclaimed the Gold at the Royal Rumble en route to an enormous Wrestlemania encounter with Triple H, the die was cast between the two, and wilder days would lie ahead for both in 2006.

Returning to battle at Backlash (with Triple H as a genuine third wheel) and Summerslam that year, the well-plotted rivalry would come to a head in a TLC match at September's Unforgiven, in Edge's hometown of Toronto.

With both the crowd and the stipulation on the heel Champion's side, it was a last chance saloon for Cena, who had required humanising after crowd hostilities towards him had began in earnest the previous year.

A sterling effort from both concluded with a famous Attitude Adjustment (then still the F-U) to Edge through stacked tables, propelling Cena to new heights as a three-time Champion, and kicked off his run with the top title that would last over a year, only to be derailed by injury in October 2007.
