10 WWE Feuds We Didn’t Know We Needed (Until We Got Them)
6. Sheamus Vs. Big Show
In 2012, Sheamus was imperious. The Celtic Warrior shocked (a portion of) the world in winning the Royal Rumble before going one better and obliterating Daniel Bryan to win the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXVIII, an 18-second squash that eventually changed WWE as we knew it. A less-than-inspiring feud with Alberto Del Rio followed but Sheamus was establishing himself as a main event performer in WWE, despite the humdrum nature of sh*tting in Bertie's car.
In 2012, Big Show was still Big Show.
Sheamus vs. 2012 Big Show felt like another town for the Irishman to travel through on his way to bigger, better things. It was an excuse to get Show on pay-per-views, although most fans hoped and prayed that 'pay-per-views' would actually be singular. The two were scheduled to meet at WWE Hell in a Cell 2012, a show famous for the debut of Brad Maddox. 'Famous' means different things to different people.
Fans around the world were shocked when Sheamus vs. Big Show turned out to be very, very good indeed. That first match went 20-minutes, a lifetime in terms of Big Show matches but it didn't feel long, not in the slightest. It was two brutes beating the tar out of each other, the welts on the skin of the Celtic Warrior clear for all to see, until an attempted Brogue Kick turned into a KO punch and a new World Heavyweight Champion.
Was this the best feud of Big Show's WWE career? Floyd Mayweather might have something to say about that, but it is difficult to argue that the series of matches with Sheamus represented the best that the legend has offered in WWE.
