2016 saw the women’s revolution make huge strides, but we can expect those strides to be eclipsed in the new year. Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair took part in the first ever female Hell in a Cell match at the eponymous PPV, and it would be fair to expect more match firsts for the girls next year.

There have been rumblings of a women’s Royal Rumble, and whilst that may be a possibility, it is more likely that we will see the first ever women’s Money in the Bank match. The MitB concept is somewhat tired after almost a decade in use, so adding a women’s match to the mix seems like a no-brainer.

Would the females have what it takes to put on a great ladder match? Of course. Banks, Flair, Becky Lynch, Bayley, Alexa Bliss and the rest have shown that the current crop of female competitors are a long way removed from the swimwear models of the past, and as such former restrictions simply no longer exist.

2017 should see the women of WWE do battle to climb the ladder and pick up a briefcase for a future championship opportunity. Just please don’t make the briefcase pink.
