8. An American Universal Champion

The Universal Championship is still a brand new title, and with only two champions in its lineage this may be considered somewhat low hanging fruit. Still, a first is a first, and in 2017 surely we will see the first ever American Universal Champion crowned.

So far we’ve seen an Irishman and a Canadian hold the title, in the shape of Finn Bálor and Kevin Owens, but there are a whole host of US-born superstars waiting in the wings to hold the title. Seth Rollins has fallen short in his quest to date, and current United States Champion Roman Reigns is the next in line to challenge for the belt.

Behind these two we also find Brock Lesnar and Goldberg, Big Cass, Big E. and the Black Sheep Braun Strowman. An American-born performer will hold the big red belt for the first time in 2017.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
