10 WWE Gimmick Reboots That Saved The Wrestler's Career

9. Faarooq Asad To Faarooq

Before coming to the WWF, Ron Simmons had already made a name for himself in the world of professional wrestling. In WCW, he was the first ever African American world heavyweight champion when he defeated Vader. Coming to the WWF, Simmons should have been treated with a little more respect based on his history. Instead, he was given a gladiatorial type gimmick with a stupid-looking blue helmet. Thankfully, that ridiculous gimmick was quickly scrapped, and Faarooq was re-branded as a Malcolm X type leader of the group known as the Nation of Domination. This kept Faarooq at the top of the card for all of 1997. Faarooq was given a couple new gimmicks after the Nation leader: specifically a gothic follower of the Undertaker and a beer-drinking gun-for-hire. But it was his first gimmick change that was the best. F aarooq Asad the silly-looking gladiator was never going to work. Changing to the leader of the Nation saved Faarooq's WWE career, and assured he would join the Hall of Fame.
