10 WWE Gimmicks That Were Basically Just Rip-Offs

1. The Cat/Brodus Clay

Back in WCW, Ernest "The Cat" Miller suddenly transformed from a bland karate guy act to a semi-entertaining mid-card one. He would often brag about being a "three time world karate champion," and told his opponents that "somebody better call my mama, because I'm about to hurt somebody." It was good, harmless fun. After WCW folded, most people thought they'd never see him again, especially since he wasn't brought along for the invasion. But amazingly, The Cat joined the WWE a year later in 2002. After starting out as an announcer on Velocity, Vince McMahon decided that he wanted him in the ring. He must have not reached his quota of dancing gimmicks on the roster. A series of vignettes aired that showed the high-flying lifestyle of The Cat, who was coming to battle the WWE's best. As part of his debut, he was given a catchy funk song with the repeating lyrics "Somebody Better Call My Momma." It made perfect sense. What made no sense is that 10 years later, a new dancing fat man stole his gimmick and theme song. That sorry individual was Brodus Clay. But who was this "mama" that Clay was now referring to? Well, the only reason he would say that in his promos was because it was the main lyrics of his theme song...which came from a different wrestler. It was stupid, made no sense and even Ernest Miller is "a little pissed off" about it. Looks like somebody better call his lawyer!

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
